Welcome to the SSJHS Library Media Center
Hello, We are here for you!
"The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." ~ Dr. Seuss
Libraries are cornerstones of the schools and communities they serve. Libraries are a source of entertainment and education for students as well as adults. A library not only helps to instill the habit of reading but instills a thirst for knowledge. They are a legacy to each generation, offering the heritage of the past and the promise of the future.
Smiths Station Jr. High library is a wonderful place that contributes to the learning process of your child. It is where they can get away from the noise of the world and create their own world. Walking through this library opens up many kinds of opportunities. It's a place where they can sit down and read a book, do research, study and watch movies about people, places or things. It is a place where a story is stuffed in a book designed to enrich their lives and help them become the people they are meant to be.
Hours of Operation
The media center is open for student use from 7:30 AM until 3:00 PM central time each day, Monday through Friday. Students are required to have a library pass if they come to the library unaccompanied by a teacher during regular school hours.
The Right Way to Act
Students must observe the library rules at all times. These rules are discussed at the time of orientation at the beginning of the year and reiterated during the year. Each student receives a copy of the rules.
Students are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times and respect the rights of others. Loud talking and misbehaving will not be tolerated. Students who violate library rules are given a verbal warning. Continued misbehavior will result in detention, loss of library time for an appropriate period, or punishment assigned by the administration
Time to Check-Out
Books may be checked out for a period of two weeks. Books may be renewed. Fines of five (5) cents per day (not to exceed $5.00) are charged for late books. The fees for damaged or lost books must be paid before additional books can be checked out.
Overdue notices are distributed through English classes.
Teachers may have unlimited number of checkouts but are asked to return them in a timely fashion to ensure that the books are available for all students and teachers. Books needed for special projects may be put on reserve. Reference books and regular books needed for special projects may be pulled and transported to classrooms for one day checkouts. A list should be submitted to the Librarian in advance.
